Re: Remote Start for 2011 Limited
I went to one of my local tint shops to price out some tinting, and i asked them about remote start. I was more interested in getting remote start for my chick's 09 Santa Fe....but I wanted to see how it would work with the pushbutton start of my Sonata. They said it would require a higher end starter system with a bypass, costing approximately $500. They also said there is no way to combine the functions of the stock key fob with the remote starter kit fob....so I would have to walk around with 2. Since it was a viper system that he was trying to sell me, I asked about the iphone app functionality. He said that would be another $200 for the extra brain required to communicate over 3G....but I would be able to start my car at any range (like across the country
).

I had my vehicle in for service yesterday and noticed the 11 sonata accessory brochure. They showed a remote start system available from Hyundai but the parts rep didn't have any info. Said it would probably be available around April. It looks to me that the system doesn't incorporate the current key fob so you'd still have to carry two.

I would want a setup that incorporates the OEM key fob. My wife and I both have other cars that we drive as well (so as not to stack up a ton of miles on the Sonata) and we have those key/fob combos on our keyrings as well as the Sonatas. Not really interested in carrying a third. I'd love to have remote start but we'd have to get back to consistent cold weather for me to do a third fob and have an even bigger wad of metal and plastic in my pocket all day. Less of an issue for my wife since she carries a suitcase.

I Live in BC. Can you tell me if your remote was a Hyundai unit or who made your unit?

IF your remote start is used mostly when your home then get a single button remote start and just have the fob hanging by the door to start the car while your home and not take it with you

Also if you look hard enough you can find remote starts that have a built in turbo timer (compustar) or the functionality to do 2 vehicles with one remote. There are also some remote starts that are a single button start but also have a pulsed input. The pulsed input means you can set it to read a signal in will start the car. When i installed all the time i used to use this on alot of Chrysler cars and trucks because people didn't want to remotes. basically all the person would do is hit the lock button 2 times on the factory remote this will ensure the door is locked and armed , then the remote start will disarm the factory alarm and start the car. Thus using nothing but factory remote.

Is it possible to do a remote start option without giving up your second key? Has anyone else done remote start? Any thoughts/suggestions?
