Just got an email back from Poweraxel, they said they have been developing the reflash for the 2.0t and it should be out soon. If the results are anything like what they did with the 2.0 genesis it should be an awesome power gain!

^You said it, can't wait to see what extra power Injen can squeeze from this engine, expecially with that horribly restrictive air box Hyundai puton there (probably to hold the turbo sound down)

I sent an email to PowerAxel last week and no reply. I'm glad someone is getting a response. I'd like to see 250hp at the wheels and 0-60 times in the high 5's. I'll just keep on waiting I guess. Keep us informed guys.

Thanks!

What needs to start happening is we "ALL" need to start contacting these main players like AEM, INJEN, BORLA, AGPTURBO and any other aftermarket company, and start to get these cars some attetion in OUR (USA) main stream performance parts game. Yes, this is a korean car company but there is allot of TUNERS (LOCAL) that can play a big part in getting these parts we all want.

OOOOO yea hears the pic of my modified box

Talked to Power Axcel today on the phone. The guy said they are developing some performance upgrades for the Sonata 2.0T. Said time frame is around 1st Quarter 2011. I can't wait. Very Happy

Does anyone know if these types of mods void any of the warranties? I'm wondering cuz I'd love to get some more ponies out of it...

How about K&N filters/intakes or aftermarket exhausts?

The drop ion filter wont void your warrantie, and if you put a CAI you just put it back to stock when you bring it in. But when it get to playing around with the ECU and exhaust... Warrantie is Gone. Thats what i have been told from everyone i have talked too. But it would be nice to get some extra power. I hope they can develope some mods that can bring us in the 12's in the 1/4 mile Very Happy

This engine is a varient of four WRC's in a row!

Post by mjack on 6/1/2011, 5:10 pm

This Mitsubishi 4G63 varient engine that produces 137 hp per litre has produced 202 hp litre in the past in Europe. That is the most specific power per litre by a production engine. The Sonata Turbo Charger is also licensed by Mitsubishi and GDI is probably all part of a joint effort and Hyundai is the actual manufacturer of these systems and engine. Obviously they can put about as much power as they want to in this engine. But this engines first resposibility for the future success is emissions, economy and power. When you consider the end result and compare to an older technology Genesis we have some serious progress. I think it will be quite an accomplishment for the after market to get a significant power increase (which obviously is there) but the technology of ultra clean burn, economy and the Direct Injection technology will be a real challange. Now all fuel/air is concentrated into the intake stroke only and requires a great deal of computer memory only recently available to allow super high pressure injectors to inject the fuel charge to an exact location for the clean burn and have time for maximum power and that latest fuel delivery before the piston is TDC. I think there are some real limitations here and the real big opportunity may be in brakes and suspension. We will see, it will be interesting for sure.

CAI on this car with the super effective turbo intercooler probably has very little or any positive power results on this engine. In fact it might have a negative power result. Your MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor or MAF (mass air flow) sensor must be different to have any actual change in power. Cooler air intake would be far more significant with a non turbo/intercooler engine. This engine the result of CAI or lower back pressure exhaust might have a different sound, but may actually reduce engine performance. But nothing wrong with it if it sounds good to you. However usually there is a price to pay even if you can configure for more power, how much fuel economy have you lost, or will you car now pass inspection, or will your warranty be effected. This particular engine technology will be quite a challange to alter effectively well.

I'm afraid you're incorrect, friend.

I am the proud owner of Injen's very first intake designed for the Sonata 2.0T. They used my car to fabricate the kit.

Their intake kit did in fact add horsepower/torque, and I still averaged 33-35MPG on the highway during my 2 hour drive home from their facility in Pomona. That was with Eco Mode OFF too, btw.

With the free time they had before I picked up the car today, they actually fabricated a full 2.75" mid-pipe that deletes the stock cat and resonator. Their dyno broke down before they could test it out on my car, though. Super bummer!

Depending on how well the intake sells, they will consider producing a full 3" exhaust system, however they commented that our stock down-pipe/flex-pipe is actually very efficient as-is, however larger diameter exhaust piping + turbo motor = +HP/TQ, in case you weren't already aware.

I'm waiting on the dyno .pdf to be e-mailed to me so that I can post it up all over the forums, to illustrate the difference between stock VS. Injen's intake. Stay tuned for that.
